(Circus is part of the swordcoast.net development effort)
Circus is the flagship of swordcoast.net’s software corner. Sure, a patched IRCd is nice and all, but it depends a lot on working services. And here they are.
Circus is not much like ChanServ, The Q Bot, The X Bot, GNUWorld, Srvx and similar projects. Its main purposes remain the same, of course, but there is a lot more to it. For example:
Contact lists (like those you know from ICQ). This will probably be combined with the existing /away system.
User groups (which consist of smaller groups with different privileges) to finally get rid of ugly single-letter privilege flags or privilege levels. User groups are created by requesting their creation (several means are supported); the managers of user groups can manage its sub-groups and their members (and partially delegate their privileges). In other words: your users will be delighted about how easy managing their members has become.
Operator and Administrator privileges are very fine-grained and given out using the same groups system as for normal users. You can give every member of your staff the level of power that is best suited for them.
Circus supports remote control; mainly for use with web interfaces (such as Circus-WWW).
Circus provides an IAuth server for your IRC servers to minimize configuration efforts.
